hymn-singers, part 2...

one of grandma matchette's favorites:

DAY BY DAY

day by day and with each passing moment, strength i find to meet my trials here. trusting in my Father's wise bestowment, i've no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure gives to each day what He deems best, lovingly its part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest.

every day the Lord Himself is near me with a special mercy for each hour. all my cares He fain would bear and cheer me, He whose name is Counselor and Power. the protection of His child and treasure is a charge that on Himself He laid. "as your days, your strength shall be in measure," this the pledge to me He made.

help me then in every tribulation so to trust Your promises, o Lord, that i lose not faith's sweet consolation offered me within Your holy Word. help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, ever to take, as from a Father's hand, one by one, the days, the moments fleeting, till i reach the Promised Land.

one of grandpa matchette's favorites:

I'D RATHER HAVE JESUS

i'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold; i'd rather be His than have riches untold; i'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands. i'd rather be led by His nail-pierced hand than to be the king of a vast domain and be held in sin's dread sway. i'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

i'd rather have Jesus than men's applause; i'd rather be faithful to His dear cause; i'd rather have Jesus than world-wide fame. i'd rather be true to His holy name than to be the king of a vast domain and be held in sin's dread sway. i'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom; He's sweeter than honey from out of the comb; He's all that my hungering spirit needs. i'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead than to be the king of a vast domain and be held in sin's dread sway. i'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

when i asked what their favorite hymns were, their first answers were identical to grandma and grandpa halsey's...VICTORY IN JESUS and FACE TO FACE...

LOVE THESE GRANDPARENTS!!!
